Forest Collective x Max Lawrence: Fountain (Midsumma Festival)
Abbotsford Convent - Oratory, Sacred Heart building. Feb 3, 4, 5.
Tickets at: https://www.midsumma.org.au/whats-on/events/fountain/
Presented by: Midsumma Festival, Forest Collective and Abbotsford Convent as part of Convent Live
Safe(R) Space Midsumma Presents Music: Popular
An orchestrated performance about approaching the world and the self with fluidity, and how such a shift can be revolutionary
‘Fountain’, an orchestral arrangement of Max Lawrence’s music as performed with Forest Collective, explores fluidity and softness in our interactions with ourselves and environment. An antithesis to binary absolutes, a celebration of the undefinable, captured in Lawrence’s sweeping vocals and arrangements. Fountain shows us the sublime in grief and washes us ashore to find healing within it.
A thoughtful observer, Max Lawrence creates larger-than-life baroque pop, blending electronic grooves with orchestral textures; capturing the expansive and detailing the intimate in the form of song.
Inspired by Bjork, Moses Sumney, James Blake and Kate Bush, Lawrence’s audiovisual landscapes blur the line between intimacy and fantasy, shaping worlds that are grounded in reality, yet extend upon it.
Forest Collective is a not for profit artist collective focusing on contemporary classical music, dance and collaboration. Under the direction of composer and conductor Evan J Lawson, Forest Collective strive to enrich audiences through multidisciplinary, innovative, collaborative, experimental, and traditional art forms from early career and established artists.
Following their intricate and expressive 2020 performance of ‘Chlorophyll’, Max Lawrence and Forest Collective join forces again for ‘Fountain’ at the Abbotsford Convent, offering a free-flowing expression of sonic softness. Come along with an open mind and heart.
